I’ve had a good past week or so of training so I I’ve had a good past week or so of training so I finally feel fit enough to post pictures of me doing fitness 😂
I got back from Knox after Semis and literally ALL my joints started hurting, so much that I couldn’t really workout.. at least not with the intensity that I’d like
So instead, I found stuff each day that didn’t hurt as much, and that’s what I did. I ended up on the assault bike a lot, and doing some type of sandbag / medball / neutral grip dumbbell workout 
It’s an unfortunate fact of life.. The older you get, the harder it is to recover, and the more aches and pains you’re going to feel. Whether it’s at 32 or 55, eventually things are going to change and you’ll have to adapt
Not only your workouts, but your mindset
I rely heavily on the benefits of exercise for my quality of life. It feeds into everything else I do, positively or negatively, and my love for working out is what got me into this profession 15 years ago. So it’s hard when you can’t do something today that you could do last week
That’s where mindset comes in. Whether it’s your fitness, finances, work, relationships, etc - things are constantly changing and much of it can be out of our control
So when I’m bummed about times where I’m not able to train (or dealing with any other type of adversity), I rely on a few things to keep my mental space healthy:
1. Gratitude journaling - there is ALWAYS plenty to be grateful for, as long as you have the humility and self awareness to recognize it and think on it regularly 
2. Focusing on what I can control - I’ll literally make a list (which when you write it down, you realize we control very little 😅) 
From there, I write what I can do to take action on the things I can control. In this instance, I created workouts that got my heart rate up while avoiding too much acute hinging for my joints which is what causes the most pain
3. Ask for help - again, this applies to any level of adversity, but in this instance, I’m talking to PTs, getting MRIs, texting people who’ve dealt with similar things, etc
Take action where you can, and maintain a mindset of gratitude no matter what 🔑

It’s only been a few weeks and I’m missing the It’s only been a few weeks and I’m missing the action and intensity of live competition. 2 more weeks until LCQ, then 4-5 weeks until the @crossfitgames 
So many exciting things coming down the pipeline, not to mention a new live iteration of @zelosgames we’re hosting mid September (more to come on that later 👀)
I’m grateful for moments like this that are caught on camera to reflect on, and for guys like @shotsbysroka and @tamanephotography who diligently give so much of their time and energy to artfully and skillfully capture thousands of moments far more exciting than this of athletes accomplishing great feats, and sharing it with the world so we can all feel like we were a part of some pretty epic moments. They’re the real OGs

Not having the best go of it lately with my fitness with a few injuries and issues limiting my options for workouts, but I’m grateful for the God-given ability to still be able to move and find creative ways to get that feeling of accomplishment that only a good workout provides. The assault bike is becoming my best friend lately 👀 and light weight bodybuilding is becoming the norm
Mindset is everything during seasons like this. I don’t always do the best with it, but that’s why I keep quotes like this in a note in my phone so I can reference later when I know that I need em. 10/10 recommend giving it a try

2 more workouts and, despite the adrenal fatigue and physical exhaustion from the past few days, everyone is fighting for points - leaving everything they have out on the floor
@quads.like.kyra I’m so impressed with your mental and physical resilience throughout these events. I hope you’ve made yourself proud, because I am, and I can’t wait to watch you continue to grow
@m7mcclune fought hard through the last 2 events, AND he inspired one hell of a video on @hillerfit page. If you want an idea of how hard event 6 was, go see for yourself 👀 
@daniellebrandon7 won both events and solidified her 1st place spot at the MACC and her ticket to the @crossfitgames - but more importantly, I think she’s shown people what she’s capable of and that she’s very capable of contending for a top spot in Madison this year. D, you’re a freakin unit 
@justincotler I know you’re happy, but I hope you’re proud. The impact you make in the performance of these athletes, and ultimately their lives, is hard to put in words - but it shows itself on the floor. You’re one hell of a coach 
I’m sure Justin would say he couldn’t do it all without @kieferlammi and his support, but also his magical ability to write programming, and I’d agree. Underdogs is lucky to have someone as passionate, intelligent and invested as you are in this sport and in our athletes
@tamanephotography @shotsbysroka @erincostaphoto thank you for capturing it all. Without you, the world wouldn’t know how badass our athletes look during competition! Or how aggressive Justin looks when he’s on the sidelines 😅

Day 2 recap Last night was a late night, so today Day 2 recap
Last night was a late night, so today came early. Caffeine fueled the early part of the day, then excitement fueled the rest
30 men and women out of the 300 “fittest” people on Earth are all fighting for 5 spots so they can make it to the @crossfitgames, and you can feel that pressure more and more as the events go on
As a spectator, it’s pretty epic - so I can’t even imagine what it must feel like to be on the floor, fighting for every point and every second
Event 3 was faaaaaast. It’s one of those workouts that you’re either somehow really good at, or you have to pace it perfectly so you don’t blow your arms up and stand under the rope forever during the second half. Fortunately, the @underdogsathletics athlete were prepared, they knew their paces, and they all executed really well
Event 4 was almost impossible to complete, considering only 1 person did. It was looong and it looked freakin tough. Those runners seem to be a bit harder than normal, and by the time they got to the sandbag (150/100), I imagine it felt about twice as heavy
@m7mcclune ran his heart out and looked good doing it! So good, I think people are starting to mistake him for Ben Smith 😂 @quads.like.kyra held her own among a group of some of the fittest girls on the planet, and finished the day staying in the last heat, which is awesome. @daniellebrandon7 played it smart but fought hard the entire workout, pushing throughout every movement, but not too much to where she couldn’t hold on or press the gas when she needed - and when the opportunity came, she took advantage of it and finished with an EPIC heat win 
I’m sure @justincotler and @kieferlammi couldn’t be happier with their athletes

We all say we’re tired, but I know we’ll miss it when it’s over and we’ll spend the next 2 months talking about how we can’t wait for the Games

Turns out, working these events is totally different and a whole lot more work than just spectating - but I wouldn’t have it any other way
I ran into an old friend of mine who happened to be at @midatlanticcrossfitchallenge today and he said it looked like I’m living the dream, and I agreed with him. I’m tired, but I’m having a blast
This sport is awesome on its own, but being able to build and create and grow and work with athletes within the sport makes it 100x more fun and more rewarding 
@m7mcclune @daniellebrandon7 @quads.like.kyra you guys all did incredible today. I love watching y’all do your thing!
@justincotler and @kieferlammi it’s awesome watching all the coaching and behind the scenes work you guys do play itself out on the floor
